This Android application is an explanation of interfaith marriage in the Koran by Isnawati, Lc., MA. In PDF format.
Interfaith Marriage in the Qur'an
Marriage is a noble worship, where two people unite in a sacred bond. In leading to marriage there are things that have been passed, from starting to prepare, choosing the right partner, going through the procession of ta'aruf, khitbah and other preparations. In choosing a partner, Rasulullah SAW recommends four things that must be considered:
Marry a woman because of four things, her wealth, her offspring, her beauty, and her religion, and prioritize her who is religious (practicing religion), you will be lucky. (HR: Bukhari Muslim)
In the hadith above, the Prophet once recommended marrying someone who is most prioritized, or paid attention to, based on his religion, he who practices the religion, namely Islam.
Umar once said to Hudzaifah: If Muslims like to marry religious women, then who will marry Muslim women? And he forbade the marriage of a Muslim marrying a biblical woman
Umar's words show that marriage should be based on the similarity of religion, namely Islam.
But, what if a marriage takes place between people of different religions, a Muslim man and a non-Muslim woman for example or vice versa? And what about the law set by Allah in the Qur'an regarding this interfaith marriage?
In this paper, verses relating to interfaith marriage will be discussed, from Surah Al-Baqarah verse 221, Al-Maidah verse 5, and Al-Mumtahanah verse 10.
