The 3rd Series of Modern Sufism Discussions
Some of the books that I have read about the Isra' Mi'raj did not give a satisfactory description regarding some of the things surrounding the Isra' Mi'raj incident. Among them is the classic question that questioned whether the journey of the Prophet was carried out with the spirit alone, or with the body. Both related to the Mecca-Palestine trip, as well as from Palestine to Sidratul Muntaka. There is almost no adequate explanation from a scientific point of view. Most writers rely on the logic of 'desperation', that if God had willed, surely all of that could have happened.
Others, the question arises: is it true that the first prayer was sent down at the Mi'raj in the seventh heaven. Hadn't the command to pray been received by Prophet Abraham, Prophet Musa, Prophet David, Prophet Sulayman, to Prophet Isa? So that the Apostles actually also prayed in the same way: bowing and prostrating.
Even from the hadiths that narrate the journey of the Isra' Mi'raj itself, information is obtained that Rasulullah SAW performed prayers at several stops during the trip. So he has been praying. So is it true that he went to the seventh heaven to receive the prayer order. Is it not for some other purpose?
Or, there is also a critical question that arises from the story about the revelation of the command to pray 5 times a day. It is described in classic stories that Rasulullah SAW received orders to pray through a very tough 'bargaining' process with Allah. The prayer order itself was initially 50 times a day and night, then decreased to 5 times, after being 'bargained' by Rasulullah SAW with the support of Prophet Musa.
Is that how it happened? And there are many more critical questions that are still sticking out here and there related to this very 'horrendous' trip.
