I've used this app since it was launched almost 6 years ago and it has been very good the entire time, easy to browse for new podcasts, easy to find anything you'd want to do as a podcast listener. I will not be switching over to YouTube Music or whatever Google decides is better than this, I will be switching to another dedicated podcast player.
To those looking for a replacement, check out Podcast Republic. It has all of the same podcasts, it's very customizable (letting you change what the buttons on your Bluetooth headset do, modify the number of seconds to FF or RW, etc.). Also, there's an iOS version so you can sync your listening progress between your Pixel phone and your iPad. There's a cheap in-app purchase to permanently remove the ad banner at the bottom of the app. Bye Google Podcasts; you were great while you lasted.
This app is 5 starts but not the company. Please don't discontinue this app. YT music does not have my favorite podcasts and is much more complicated to navigate. I WILL NOT be using it when Google Podcasts goes away. It's a shame because this is without a doubt the best podcast app out there right now. It's clean, simple, and has EVERYTHING. please don't force people to use a far inferior app to listen to podcasts. I'm very disappointed in Google for no longer providing service to this app.
