Breastfeeding Law in Islam
A. Introduction
Radha'ah (breastfeeding) has an important position in Islamic law. And Islamic law has regulated in detail regarding this breastfeeding starting from the time, the pillars, to the legal implications. But in practice, this is still a complicated and foreign matter to the ears of the Islamic community in general.
Departing from this, the author wants to put forward the discussion of radha'ah (breastfeeding) through the interpretation of Al-Quran verses related to radha'ah, including sura al-Baqarah; 233 and al-Nisa; 23 which is also supported by several hadiths relating to radha'ah (breastfeeding).
B. Understanding
Al-Radhaah which means sucking the breast and drinking the milk. A woman who breastfeeds her child is called a murdhi' or murdhi'ah, while the child she breastfeeds is called a radhi'.
Whereas in terms, the definition of radha'ah is the event of the arrival of a woman's milk into the stomach of a small child which causes certain legal consequences with certain conditions.
C. Legal Basis
The propositions of the Koran which are the legal basis of radha'ah include:
"And mothers shall suckle their children for two whole years..."
Also QS al-Thalaq; 6
"...then if they breastfeed your children then give them a reward..."
