General Discussion Regarding Aqiqah
A. Definition of Aqiqah
1. Etymology of Aqiqah
In language, aqiqah comes from the word 'aqqa-ya'iqqu/ya'aqqu which means to cut. The word cut here can be interpreted in two contexts, namely cutting the baby's hair (shaving) to be aqiqah and the second is cutting (slaughtering) animals for the baby being aqiqah.
2. Aqiqah Terminology
Imam Nawawi in his book al-Majmu' explains the meaning of aqiqah:
"an animal that is slaughtered on the seventh day from the birth of a child as a form of gratitude to Allah subhanahu wata'ala for the gifts of the children he has received, both boys and girls."
B. Aqiqah stipulation
If we refer to the hadiths of the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, then we will find there the arguments for the teachings of aqiqah.
1. Sunnah Qauliah
a. First Hadith
Hadith narrated from Muhammad bin sirin
Has informed us salman bin amir adz-dzaby, he said: I have heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam say: "At the same time as the birth of a boy there is an aqiqah, then spill (redemption) from him the blood (slaughter) and clean the dirt from him ( shave his head). (Narrated by Al-Bukhori and Ashhabus sab'ah).
b. Second Hadith
Hadith narrated from samuroh bin Jundub ra:
Every newborn child is mortgaged and redeemed with an aqiqah on the seventh day and then his hair is shaved and given a name).” (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
