Women lead female congregations, fiqh scholars differ on the law. Some scholars consider that the law is sunnah, some others view it as makruh, and some think it is not permissible, even the prayer that is led by a woman according to them must be repeated. The following is the opinion of the scholars:
1. Al-Hanafiyah School
Az-Zaila'i (d. 743 H), one of the scholars of the Al-Hanafiyah school of thought in the book Tabyin Al-Haqaiq Syarh Kanzu Ad-Daqaiq wrote as follows:
A woman is not an imam for men, and it is also forbidden to pray in congregation for women.
Badruddin Al-Aini (d. 855 H), one of the scholars of the Al-Hanafiyah school of thought in his book Al-Binayah Syarah Al-Hidayah, in the chapter of female priests for female congregations in congregational prayers, he wrote the following:
So it is makruh in law, if a woman leads a female congregation. Likewise, congregational prayers are prohibited for women.
