In the books of turat fiqh, the understanding is found that what is meant by 'iddah is the calculated period during which the woman waits to find out if the uterus is empty, where this knowledge is obtained by birth, or by months or by quru calculations'.

Where the obligation to ber'iddah is an order from Allah SWT which is imposed on an independent woman or a slave who has been divorced or left by her husband to carry it out as a manifestation of obedience to Him.
