Veil Law for Women
Alhamdulillah, washalatu wassalamu 'ala Rasulullah.
In Islam, all things that are done by humans as creatures of mulaf (which are subject to the burden of law) have rules. Included in the matter of dress and decoration.
Dressing up to cover the genitals is an obligation that must be carried out by every individual Muslim or Muslimah. And of course, between male and female genitalia have their respective limits.
Muslim men, the minimum limit for covering their genitals is between above the navel and below the knee. This is an area that must be closed. While Muslim women in general, the boundaries that do not include genitalia are the face and palms.
In this area, clothing that covers it must be loose (do not reveal curves) and not transparent. If that has been fulfilled, then clothing with any model is generally permissible.
Then the next issue is about a woman's face. Jumhur scholars are of the opinion that a woman's face and palms are not genitalia. However, if it is believed that it can cause slander, then it is better to close it.
Then, apart from the differences in the law on the veil that have been explained by the scholars, what is clear, the veil is part of the form of clothing that was exemplified by women during the time of the Salaf.
Zahirically, this is part of a woman's efforts to protect herself from being "seduced and seduced" by the opposite sex because of her beauty.
But that doesn't mean that those who don't wear the veil are called "seducers". Not like that. There are many ways to maintain honor, one of them is by wearing a veil.
There are women who are not veiled, but are able and able to behave in the presence of foreign men. Even without a veil, there are thousands of ways to maintain her honor.
To veil or not, this is a choice. It's called a choice, of course there are things that have been considered. Especially considering the circumstances.
There is an Indonesian citizen (WNI) living in Saudi Arabia with his family, children and wife. The wife when she was in Indonesia was not veiled, but was dressed neatly like a Muslim woman. Nothing was visible except his face and palms.
When migrating to Saudi Arabia, the wife put on a veil. It's not just about the rules that apply there.
But it's about adjusting the general clothing that prevails there. Because if the wife is not veiled, especially in a crowded place, it is certain that the wife will be the center of attention. Because she's the only woman whose face is visible.
Mutual respect in diversity is certainly better and more beautiful. Wallahu a'lam bi ash-shawab.
