Author: Qadli Abu Syuja' Al-Ashfahani
Translator: KH. Siradjuddin Abbas
This book is named Al Ghayah wat Taqrib, but is sometimes given the name Matan Taqrib or Ghayatul Ikhtishar. The meaning of all of them is almost the same, namely the most concise and easily understood book.
This book is one of the concise fiqili books within the Syafi'i school, namely the school adopted by Indonesian Muslims from the past until now. It is very old, composed around 485 Hijrah, 912 years ago. It predates the fiqh books of Sharaji Muhadzab, Muhalli, Qaliyubi Bujairimi Iqna', and even earlier than the large volumes of the Tuhfah and Nihayah books.
The author of this book is Sheikh Syihabud Dunya wad Dien, Ahmad bin Husein bin Ahmad who later became known as Qadli Abu Syuja 'Al Ashfahani because he was not only a scholar, but held the position of Qadli Besar, the holder of the religious stake in his country, Ashfahan.
He was born in 443 H., formerly from famous Shafi'i scholars such as Imam Ghazali (born: 450 H), Imam Nawawi (born: 630 H.), Imam Tajuddin as Subki (born: 727 H), Imam Zarkasyi (born : 745 FI), Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani (born : 773), Jalaluddin Al Mahalli (born : 769 H.) Jalaluddin as Suyuthi (born : 809 H.), Imam Zakaria al Ansari (born : 852 H). Imam Ibn Hajar al Haitami (ladiir: 909 H). Sulaiman al Bujairimi (born: 1131 H), Sheikh Syarqawi (born: 1150 H.), Sheikh Arsyad Banjar (born: 1122 H), and others.
The book Al Ghayah wal Taqrib was composed by the author in a very concise manner but the contents are deep and broad, covering almost all important fiqh laws, both those related to shari'ah and worship, as well as those related to association and society.
Throughout the Islamic world, especially those who adhere to the Shafi'i School, especially in Indonesia, this book is used in madrasas and Islamic boarding schools as a subject of Fiqh Science at the Ibtidaiyah or beginner level.
